China Sinochem pioneered the world's first non-petroleum route to synthesize acrylic acid

2022-09-13

Recently, the world's first 1,000 tons/year acrylic acid by formaldehyde acetate process pilot plant, which was supplied by Southwest Institute, a subsidiary of Sinochem, and Celanese Corporation, was successfully started up at Yanmar Lunan Chemical in Shandong Province, achieving 72 hours of continuous and stable operation.

The "coal-based instead of petroleum-based" acrylic acid production process is a green and innovative process route, which can effectively reduce the dependence on petroleum and reduce the cost of acrylic acid production due to the fluctuation of international oil prices. It also further expands and improves the downstream industrial chain of coal-based formaldehyde and acetic acid, providing a new growth point for the coal chemical industry.
