Port coal price remains firm this week

ECHEMI 2020-02-20

Last week, the coastal coal market continued to show a weak trend of supply and demand, both upstream and downstream are in a slow recovery stage. It shows that most of the coal mines in the main production area are delayed to return to work, the coal delivered by the railway remains at the middle and low level, and the inventory of the ports around the Bohai Sea remains at the low level; the downstream industrial enterprises are also not optimistic, the industrial power load is low, the daily consumption of the six major power plants remains at about 380000 tons, and the coastal coal market shows a weak trend of supply and demand. Next week, the recovery of the coastal coal market will be accelerated, the upstream supply and downstream demand will be improved, and coal prices will continue to remain strong.

In the near future, coal prices have stabilized in the process of rising. Affected by the decrease of transfer in, the coal storage in the port around Bohai Sea decreased rapidly. Last Monday, the coal storage in QinGang port dropped to 3.9 million tons, some coal types were in short supply, and the coal price continued to rise slightly. Since last Wednesday, affected by the wind and fog, the number of anchor ships in Qinhuangdao and other northern ports has increased, and the coal storage has picked up; in addition, after a substantial increase in coal price, the downstream has been in a state of resistance to high price coal, and the coal price has gradually stabilized.

This week, upstream shipments will turn better. The central enterprises, state-owned coal mines and local medium and large-scale coal mines in the "three West" area have been resumed in succession, and the rest of the small and medium-sized mines and private mines are still in the stage of resumption approval and acceptance. Next week, the coal mine recovery face will be expanded, and the actual recovery mineral production will be increased. Due to the increase of coal export volume in Shanxi and some western Inner Mongolia, it is expected that the daily transportation volume of Daqin line is expected to rise to over 900000 tons this week, which will boost the import volume of ports around Bohai Sea.

The recovery of downstream demand is accelerated. This week, southern industrial enterprises entered a rapid recovery period. As some manufacturing and foreign trade processing enterprises in East China and South China resume production, the industrial power load will pick up, and the six coastal power plants are expected to recover to 450000 tons a day. However, some areas in the south are experiencing rain and snow again, and the civil power load will increase. Although the downstream procurement is dominated by Changxie coal, with the recovery of downstream demand and the increase of daily consumption, the inventory of power plants will fall; in the case of limited import of coal, the market coal haulage volume of users to the northern port will increase.

Port coal price remains stable. This week, both upstream and downstream are in the recovery stage, both upstream and downstream haulage will be better than last week. With the gradual resumption of production and stable supply of coal mines, as well as the increase of coal arrival in the market; coupled with the recovery of upstream and downstream procurement, and the improvement of the enthusiasm for haulage, it is expected that the situation of port transportation around the Bohai Sea will tend to improve, and the amount of coal arriving and transferring out will both increase, and the port coal price will gradually stabilize. After the recovery of the production and transportation volume of the Datong Qinhuangdao line, there will be an increase in the number of coal trucks in Qinhuangdao port; with the increase of storage and demand, the coal throughput of Qinhuangdao Port will increase slightly.
