Recent Domestic Maleic Anhydride Market Shows a Slight Decline

ECHEMI 2025-10-29

October 28, News

According to the commodity analysis system, the recent maleic anhydride market in China has slightly declined. As of October 27, the average market price of maleic anhydride produced by n-butane oxidation method remained at 5375 CNY/ton, a decrease of 1.38% from 5450 CNY/ton on October 20.

Supply side: Recently, the overall market for maleic anhydride in China has declined. The previous auction at Wanhua Yantai did not result in any transactions, providing limited support to the maleic anhydride market, and the prices from major maleic anhydride factories have been adjusted downward. However, the recent Wanhua auction saw a slight increase in the transaction price, leading to a minor recovery in the maleic anhydride market. The procurement of maleic anhydride by the downstream unsaturated resins sector is limited, with a lackluster atmosphere for stockpiling. As of October 27, in the Shandong region, the factory price for solid maleic anhydride was around 5000 CNY/ton, and for liquid maleic anhydride, it was around 4800 CNY/ton.

Upstream: This week, the overall butane market in China has declined, with prices in Shandong around 4,230 CNY/ton as of October 27.

Downstream: Currently, the market for unsaturated resins in China is mainly stable. Some factories have slightly increased their operating loads, while downstream transactions are moderate, mainly maintaining rigid demand.

The maleic anhydride product analyst notes that currently, the primary downstream application—unsaturated rigid resins—is driving demand and procurement activities. Meanwhile, maleic anhydride supply remains unchanged, with major producing regions like Shandong following suit by raising auction prices at Yantai Wanhua. As a result, the market for maleic anhydride is expected to see a slight price increase in the near term.
