Symposium on Red Chlorella Astaxanthin Antioxidant Damage held in Beijing
Recently, "Astaxanthin Application and Response to Aging - Symposium on Red Chlorella Astaxanthin and Organ Oxidative Damage" was held in Beijing, organized by Life Times of People's Daily and participated by Green A Bio. In this symposium, the participating experts with a rigorous attitude, professional perspective, around reproductive health, immunity, neurodegenerative diseases, chronic diseases, flu prevention and other common diseases, revealing the intrinsic relationship between oxidative damage and aging, and once again give a high degree of affirmation of the value of red algae astaxanthin antioxidant.
With the in-depth research on the biology of free radicals, scientists gradually clear that oxidative damage is indeed an important cause of aging and the occurrence of many acute and chronic diseases. When the body produces too many oxygen free radicals or the ability to scavenge oxygen free radicals decreases, the excessive oxygen free radicals will cause damage to the body, thus accelerating the aging process and causing various diseases.
At the meeting, Huang Qing, a researcher from Hefei Institute of Materials Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, shared the research results of astaxanthin in antioxidant and anti-radiation. He pointed out that, as a highly effective natural antioxidant, the main function of astaxanthin is to scavenge free radicals and improve the body's anti-aging ability. Astaxanthin's special "conjugated double bond" structure can cross every cell membrane, based on its super antioxidant properties, red algae astaxanthin can effectively protect against UV radiation, destroy UV-induced free radicals, reduce UV damage to the skin and prevent skin photoaging. In addition, astaxanthin can also inhibit and lighten melanin for a long time, bringing long-lasting skin whitening effect.
The common flu is also related to oxygen free radicals. During the meeting, Liu Zhongxi, attending physician of the Department of Geriatrics at Peking University First Hospital, pointed out in his speech that oxidative stress occurs in the process of fighting against influenza virus, and a large number of reactive oxygen radicals will not only cause peroxidative damage to immune cells, but influenza virus infection may also be accompanied by a weakening of the vitality of some free radical scavengers, which will lead to a series of symptoms and consequences.
He Junqin, chief physician of the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Beijing Maternity Hospital, Capital Medical University, said in the keynote speech "Anti-aging and Antioxidant Maintenance of Female Reproductive Health" that the ovaries are the main body of female estrogen secretion, and the degeneration of ovarian function will inevitably cause the reduction of estrogen, which means the reduction of oxygen radical scavengers freely secreted in women's bodies. In this case, the excess oxygen free radicals will accelerate the oxidative damage to the ovaries.
In addition, Dr. Sun Yongan, chief physician of the Department of Neurology at Peking University First Hospital, said in his speech that oxidative stress in the brain is the cause of many neurodegenerative diseases, with multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease all falling into this category. Zhai Fengying, honorary director of the Chinese Nutrition Society and former deputy director of the Institute of Nutrition and Health of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said in his speech "Astaxanthin enhances immunity and promotes health in the elderly" that there is increasing evidence that oxidative stress may play an important role in the health of the elderly, and that aging and age-related diseases are related to oxidative stress status.
The human body has its own free radical scavenging mechanism, which strives to maintain the balance of free radicals in the body and protect the body from damage caused by free radicals. However, the body's ability to scavenge free radicals decreases with age. Experts at the conference said that to reduce the harm of free radicals to the human body, in addition to relying on the internal antioxidant defense system, but also to explore exogenous antioxidants. Astaxanthin is recognized as the fourth generation of antioxidants, and is also the super antioxidant substance discovered by humans so far.
In his keynote speech on "Prevention and Treatment of Alzheimer's Disease", Sun Yongan pointed out that red algae astaxanthin is the only carotenoid that can pass the blood-brain barrier, which can protect the central nervous system, especially the brain, effectively prevent oxygen free radicals from damaging the central nervous system, delay cognitive decline in the elderly, and reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease. He Junqin said that red algae astaxanthin can also play a good role in delaying the degeneration of ovarian function and promoting the secretion of estrogen.
In the seminar on "The role of astaxanthin in improving liver injury and chronic liver disease and its application", Professor Fu Zhengwei from Zhejiang University of Technology shared that astaxanthin can not only improve the activity of liver antioxidant enzymes under the effect of ultraviolet light, improve liver fat accumulation and inflammation caused by obesity, but also effectively improve the symptoms of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis in humans. For liver inflammation, astaxanthin can avoid tissue liver damage by inhibiting lipid peroxidation and stimulating the cellular antioxidant system.
When the aging society and the era of longevity come in parallel, the public demand for delaying aging is also rising, and the super antioxidant qualities of red algae astaxanthin are getting more and more attention in the field of life science research because of its superb antioxidant qualities. Experts at the conference believe that free radicals are the most important endogenous aging factor that has been identified. Anti-free radicals and antioxidants require not only a good lifestyle, but also medical intervention if necessary, to improve one's own antioxidant function and thereby delay aging.
