Mitsui Chemicals expands EV resin production capacity in Singapore
Recently, Mitsui Chemicals said that the company will expand the production capacity of resins for electric vehicles (EV) in Singapore. The company will build a new plant in Singapore to produce "TAFMER" resin. Construction of the new plant will be completed in fiscal 2024, with an estimated annual production capacity of 120,000 tons. As a result, Mitsui Chemicals' TAFMER production capacity in Singapore will reach 345,000 tons, an increase of about 50%.
According to Mitsui Chemicals, the demand for auto parts and materials related to solar cells is growing in the Asian market. The new plant in Singapore is Mitsui Chemicals' response to this market expectation. The amount invested in the project has not been disclosed.
According to Mitsui Chemicals, TAFMER is a new generation of resin improvement materials that can improve the performance of resin materials. As a lightweight, easy-to-process flexible resin material, it can enhance the function of food packaging films in addition to automotive parts. Currently, the product is only produced in Singapore and Japan.
