In nature, hydrogen can be found in water, petroleum and natural gas. Hydrogen makes up most of the mass of elements such as methane (CH4), and ammonia (NH3).
3. Oxygen
Oxygen is an element that exists in pure form as water, ozone, hydrogen peroxide and ethanol but more commonly it is found combined with itself and other elements to form chemical compounds such as water, ozone and ethanol. Oxygen can exist in both positive or negative forms; it can combine with itself, carbon or other elements to form many different types of molecules.
4. Nitrogen
Nitrogen has a blue color in its gas form and is frequently used to pressurize air-filled aircraft tires. It is commonly used in the manufacture of explosives, fertilizers, dyes and drugs. Nitrogen is an important element for human health and life. The atmosphere of Earth contains about 78 percent nitrogen gas (N2).
5. Phosphorus
Phosphorus is an element that exists in pure form as phosphate rocks, plant nutrients and phosphorus compounds but more commonly it is found combined with itself and other elements to form chemical compounds such as phosphates, phosphoramides, phospholipids, nucleic acids and DNA. Phosphorus can exist in both positive or negative forms; it can combine with itself, oxygen or other elements to form many different types of molecules.
6. Sulphur
Sulphur is an element that exists in pure form as sulphur dioxide and sulphites but more commonly it is found combined with itself and other elements to form chemical compounds such as hydrogen sulphide, sulphones and organic compounds such as amino acids. Sulphur can exist in both positive or negative forms; it can combine with itself, oxygen or other elements to form many different types of molecules.
7. Chlorine
Chlorine is an element that exists in pure form as hydrogen chloride, methyl chloride and bromide but more commonly it is found combined with itself and other elements to form chemical compounds such as hydrogen chloride, methyl chloride and bromide. Chlorine can exist in both positive or negative forms; it can combine with itself, carbon or other elements to form many different types of molecules.
8. Calcium
Calcium is an element that exists in pure form as gypsum, limestone and chalk but more commonly it is found combined with itself and other elements to form chemical compounds such as gypsum, limestone and chalk. Calcium can exist in both positive or negative forms; it can combine with itself, carbon or other elements to form many different types of molecules.
9. Sodium
Sodium is an element that exists in pure form as sodium chloride and bicarbonates but more commonly it is found combined with itself and other elements to form chemical compounds such as sodium chloride, bicarbonates and organic compounds such as amino acids.
