Tympanosclerosis, also known as tympanic hyaline degeneration, is the deposition of plaque-like collagen tissue under the epithelium of the tympanic mucosa. It mostly occurs on the tympanic mucosa and ossicles. Those that occur on the tympanic membrane are still called calcified plaques, which turn the tympanic mucosa into a milk-like substance, covering the ossicles, oval window and the area around the round window, and adhering to the bones, as if coated with a layer of capsule. Those involving the upper tympanic cavity are more serious, and those involving the lower tympanic cavity are less serious. The malleus, incus, stapes and tendons are most susceptible to involvement, so many people suffer from deafness. This disease was discovered by Cassebohm in the 18th century, but it did not attract attention until a large number of micro-otological surgeries were performed in modern times (1955) before it was clinically concerned.
