Pulmonary Mucormycosis
Pulmonary mucormycosis is a lung infection caused by pathogenic bacteria of the order Mucorales. Although rare, it develops rapidly and has a high mortality rate. Clinically, Mucor and Rhizopus are more common. The former mainly invades the lungs, while the latter often affects the sinuses, eyes, brain and digestive tract, and can spread throughout the body through the bloodstream. Pulmonary mucormycosis can be a primary infection or secondary to sinus lesions or Mucor septicemia.
