Decompression osteonecrosis is a bone necrosis that occurs in workers or divers who work under high pressure. Nearly half of the workers who work under high pressure may suffer from bone and joint injuries. In the early stage, it is an asymptomatic bone injury that can only be found by X-rays. Its typical sites of occurrence are the humerus, femur, and tibia. As long as there is a history of high pressure exposure, regardless of whether or not acute decompression sickness has occurred, decompression osteonecrosis may occur. At the end of the 18th century, there were high pressure exposures in diving, tunneling, or caisson operations. It was not until 1895 that X-ray examinations were applied clinically. In 1911, Bassoe of the United States and Bornstein of Germany first reported bone necrosis caused by exposure to high pressure. In some cases, X-rays showed typical rheumatoid arthritis changes.
