Bordetella pertussis
Whooping cough (pertussis, or whooping cough) is a common acute respiratory infectious disease in children. Bordetella pertussis is the causative bacterium of the disease. It is characterized by paroxysmal spasmodic coughs, accompanied by a special inspiratory roar at the end of the cough. The course of the disease is long, lasting for several weeks or even about three months, hence the name whooping cough. Infants with this disease are prone to complications such as suffocation, pneumonia, and encephalopathy, and the mortality rate is high. In recent years, the incidence of the disease in infants and adults has been increasing.
