Metronidazole injection

Metronidazole has a strong antibacterial effect on most anaerobic bacteria, but has no effect on aerobic bacteria and facultative anaerobes. The antibacterial spectrum includes Bacteroides fragilis and other Bacteroides, Fusobacterium, Clostridium perfringens, Eubacterium, Veillonella, Peptococcus and Peptostreptococcus, etc. Actinomycetes, Lactobacillus and Propionibacterium are resistant to this product. Its bactericidal concentration is slightly higher than the inhibitory concentration. This product can also inhibit the redox reaction of amoeba and break the nitrogen chain of the protozoa. In vitro tests have shown that when the drug concentration is 1-2 mg/L, the histolytic amoeba can undergo morphological changes in 6-20 hours and all are killed within 24 hours. When the concentration is 0.2 mg/L, the histolytic amoeba can be killed within 72 hours. This product has a strong effect of killing trichomonas, and its mechanism is unknown. It has a carcinogenic effect on some animals.

The main ingredient of this product is: metronidazole.

This product is mainly used to treat anaerobic infections.

Intravenous drip. 1. Common dosage for adults: For anaerobic infection, the first dose is 15 mg/kg (1 g for a 70 kg adult) by intravenous drip, and the maintenance dose is 7.5 mg/kg by intravenous drip every 6 to 8 hours. 2. Common dosage for children: The injection dose for anaerobic infection is the same as that for adults.

Adverse reactions occur in 15-30% of cases, with digestive tract reactions being the most common, including nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and abdominal cramps, which generally do not affect treatment; neurological symptoms include headache, dizziness, occasional paresthesia, limb numbness, ataxia, multiple neuritis, etc., and high doses can cause convulsions. A small number of cases develop urticaria, flushing, itching, cystitis, dysuria, metallic taste in the mouth, and leukopenia, all of which are reversible and recover on their own after stopping the drug.

It is contraindicated for patients with active central nervous system diseases and blood diseases.

Precautions during pregnancy and lactation: Pregnant and lactating women are prohibited to use this product. Precautions for the elderly: Due to the decreased liver function in the elderly, the pharmacokinetics of this product may change when used, and the blood drug concentration should be strictly monitored.

1. This product can inhibit the metabolism of warfarin and other oral anticoagulants, enhance their effects, and cause the prothrombin time to be prolonged. 2. The simultaneous use of drugs that induce liver microsomal enzymes, such as phenytoin sodium and phenobarbital, can enhance the metabolism of this product, reduce blood drug concentration, and slow down the excretion of phenytoin sodium. 3. The simultaneous use of drugs that inhibit the activity of liver microsomal enzymes, such as cimetidine, can slow down the metabolism and excretion of this product in the liver, and prolong the serum half-life of this product. The dosage should be adjusted according to the results of blood drug concentration determination. 4. This product interferes with disulfiram metabolism. Patients who use both together may experience mental symptoms after drinking. Therefore, patients who have used disulfiram within 2 weeks should not use this product again. 5. This product can interfere with the results of aminotransferase and LDH determinations, and can reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
