Calcium Gluconate Injection

Function and Efficacy

This product is a calcium supplement. Calcium can maintain the normal excitability of nerves and muscles and promote the secretion of acetylcholine by nerve endings. When serum calcium is low, the excitability of nerves and muscles may increase, resulting in convulsions. When blood calcium is too high, the excitability may decrease, resulting in weakness, etc. Calcium ions can improve the permeability of cell membranes, increase the density of capillaries, reduce exudation, and have an anti-allergic effect. Calcium ions can promote the calcification of bones and teeth. There is a competitive antagonism between high concentrations of calcium ions and magnesium ions, which can be used to rescue magnesium poisoning; calcium ions can react with fluoride to form insoluble calcium fluoride, which can be used to rescue fluoride poisoning.

Appearance

This product is a colorless, transparent liquid.

Indication

1. Treatment of calcium deficiency, acute hypocalcemia, alkalosis and tetany caused by hypoparathyroidism; 2. Allergic diseases; 3. Rescue of magnesium poisoning; 4. Rescue of fluoride poisoning; 5. Application during cardiac resuscitation (such as rescue of abnormal cardiac function caused by hyperkalemia or hypocalcemia, or calcium channel blockade).

Usage and Dosage

Dilute with 10% glucose injection and inject slowly, no more than 5ml per minute. For adults, 1g is used for hypocalcemia, which can be repeated when needed; for hypermagnesemia, 1-2g is used for hypermagnesemia; for fluorosis rescue, 1g of this product is injected intravenously, and repeated after 1 hour. If there is convulsion, 3g of this product can be injected intravenously; if there is fluoride damage to skin tissue, 50mg of 10% calcium gluconate is applied per square centimeter of damaged area. For children, 25mg/kg (6.8mg calcium) is slowly injected intravenously for hypocalcemia. However, due to its high irritation, this product is generally not used in children.

Adverse Reactions

Intravenous injection may cause systemic fever, and too fast intravenous injection may cause arrhythmia or even cardiac arrest, vomiting, and nausea. It can cause hypercalcemia, which may manifest in the early stage as constipation, drowsiness, persistent headache, loss of appetite, metallic taste in the mouth, abnormal dry mouth, etc., and in the late stage as mental confusion, hypertension, light sensitivity of the eyes and skin, nausea, vomiting, arrhythmia, etc.

Precautions

(1) Patients with hypercalcemia and hypercalciuria. (2) Patients with calcium-containing kidney stones or a history of kidney stones. (3) Patients with sarcoidosis (may aggravate hypercalcemia).

Special Population Medication

Drug Interactions

1. It is forbidden to be used with oxidants, citrates, soluble carbonates, phosphates and sulfates; 2. When used with thiazide diuretics, it can increase the renal reabsorption of calcium and cause hypercalcemia.

Storage

Store tightly sealed.
