Air and Water Reactions:Practically insoluble in water (10.5 mg/L). Slowly reacts with water to form sulfur dioxide and alcohols; reaction is more rapid under basic or acidic conditions.
Reactive Group:Esters, Sulfate Esters, Phosphate Esters, Thiophosphate Esters, and Borate Esters
Reactivity Profile:PROPARGITE is a sulfite ester. As an ester, it will hydrolyze to form sulfur dioxide and alcohols; reaction is more rapid under basic conditions. It may react exothermically with acids to generate alcohols. Heat will be generated by interaction with basic or caustic solutions. Flammable hydrogen is generated by mixing with alkali metals and hydrides.
