Citric Acid Anhydrous

Citric acid comes in two forms: anhydrous and monohydrate. Translucent crystal or white fine powder crystal. Odorless, with a strong sour taste. Dry or heated to 40 ~ 50℃ to become anhydrous substance, anhydrous substance in dry air easy weathering, slightly delix. It becomes soft at 75℃. Melt at 100℃. The relative densities are 1.542 (-hydrate) and 1.67(anhydrates). Soluble in water (209g monohydrate) lOOmL, 25℃; Anhydrous matter 59.2g /lOOmL, 20℃; 1% solution has a pH of 2.31) and ethanol, dissolved in ether. Natural products are found in citrus fruits such as lemons. Powder and air can form explosive mixtures. Risk of ignition and explosion in contact with open flame, high heat or oxidant.

Citric acid has strong chelation, which can complex Fe3+ and weaken the promoting effect of Fe3+ on corrosion. Can remove iron, copper and other metal oxide scale, easy to operate, safe, suitable for a variety of materials. As the molecule does not contain c1-, it will not cause stress corrosion of the equipment. As a cleaning agent, citric acid has a lower corrosion rate on steel than hydrochloric acid. Citric acid is mainly used to remove rust and has poor solubility to calcium, magnesium and silicon scale, so it is mainly used to clean newly built large installations. Citric acid cannot remove calcium magnesium scale and silicate scale. However, citric acid mixed with sulfamic acid, glycolic acid or formic acid can be used to clean rust and calcium magnesium scale. Citric acid mixed with EDTA can be used to clean heat exchangers. The main corrosion inhibitor added in the citric acid cleaning solution is thiourea, the dosage is 0.1%, or 0.06% thiourea can be mixed with other corrosion inhibitors. In addition, can also be used in the field of medicine, sodium citrate salt can prevent blood coagulation, calcium salt can be used as stomach acid, barium salt toxic.

Dry.Crystalline citric acid, anhydrous, can be stored in dry form without difficulty, although conditions of high humidity and elevated temperatures should be avoided to prevent caking. Storage should be in tight containers to prevent exposure to moist air. Several granulations are commercially available with the larger particle sizes having less tendency toward caking.
