Description

Phosphomycin sodium can bind to a bacterial cell wall synthesis enzyme, blocking the first step of the reaction in which the bacteria use related substances to synthesize their cell walls, thereby killing the bacteria. It has antibacterial effects against staphylococci, pneumococci, Escherichia coli, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, most Pseudomonas putida, Streptococcus pyogenes, Enterobacter cloacae, part of indole-positive Proteus species, and certain Klebsiella species and enterobacteriaceae.
