Oxalic acid is a colorless, poisonous, organic acid with the chemical formula HO−C(=O)−C(=O)−OH, also written as (COOH) 2 or (CO 2H) 2 or H 2C 2O 4. It's a white crystalline solid that dissolves in water to form a colorless solution. Oxalic acid is also known as ethanedioic acid and gets its name from the flowering plants of the genus Oxalis, also known as wood-sorrels, where it was first isolated.

Appearance: white crystalline powder, efflorescent in warm, dry air.
