Polymyxin B is a general term for a family of basic polypeptide antibiotics composed of multiple amino acids and fatty acids produced by Bacillus polymyxa discovered in 1947. Polymyxins produced by different strains are divided into polymyxin A, B, C, D, E, and M due to the different amino acids and fatty acids they contain. Polymyxin B (Polymyxin B) is further divided into B1 and B2, polymyxin E (Polymyxin E) is further divided into E1 and E2, and polymyxin M is also called polymyxin A.
