1. Description

Ambergris ether is one of the most important components of natural ambergris; it has been identified as a fragrant component in ambergris tinctures. Ambergris ether possesses a strong, rich ambergris aroma with mild woody undertones. It serves as an excellent fixative and a fragrance with ambergris notes, functioning as a substitute for natural ambergris. Ambergris is a type of whale excretion found on beaches; for ethical reasons, it is no longer used in perfume production. Natural ambroxan, discovered in 1949, is used in perfumes. In perfumery, the “ambergris note” also refers to amber perfumes, which use rock rose essential oil and absolute as a base. Ambergris ether is the primary ambergris fragrance and the most widely used, biodegradable ambergris molecule.

2. Application

Ambergris ether possesses a strong, distinctive ambergris aroma. Used in high-end perfumes and cosmetic fragrances, it is well-suited as a fragrance ingredient for skin, hair, and fabrics because it is non-irritating to humans and does not cause allergic reactions in animals. It is commonly used in soaps, talcum powders, creams, and shampoos for fragrance and as a fixative. The typical usage rate is 0.1%–0.2%. As a freshly distilled, pure product, its aroma is not particularly pronounced. However, when diluted to 10% with alcohol and exposed to air for a period of time, the aroma becomes softer, more mellow, and beautifully fragrant. This product exhibits outstanding fixative properties, significantly enhancing the diffusion and penetration of the fragrance. Its enhancing effect persists from the top notes of the fragrance throughout the entire scent profile. Application of Ambroxane in Cigarettes: Ambroxane-type compounds are key aromatic components in aromatic cigarettes, and ambroxane is a particularly prominent fragrance material that makes a significant contribution to the smoke profile of blended cigarettes. Ambroxane is also widely used in flue-cured tobacco cigarettes and the perfume industry. When used for flavoring and blending in the cigarette industry, ambroxane harmonizes with the characteristic aroma of tobacco and masks off-notes. Even in small quantities, it improves the aromatic quality of tobacco, making it particularly suitable for flavoring blended cigarettes and enhancing the flavor profile of Oriental-type tobacco.
