VII. Product Usage Methods and Precautions
(I) Usage Method
Solid drinking water-grade PAC must first be dissolved into an aqueous solution before dosing. The specific steps are as follows and can be flexibly adjusted according to the turbidity and volume of raw water:
- Dissolution Preparation: Prepare a clean dissolution tank (made of plastic, ceramic or stainless steel; iron containers shall be avoided) and add an appropriate amount of clean water (ordinary tap water at room temperature is acceptable, no heating required);
-
- Dissolution operation: Slowly add solid PAC into the dissolution tank at a mass ratio of "solid PAC:clean water = 1:10 to 1:20", while stirring at a speed of 100-200 r/min for 3-5 minutes until completely dissolved, forming a pale yellow transparent aqueous solution.
-
- Dilution and Dosing: Add the dissolved PAC aqueous solution slowly into the raw water purification equipment (sedimentation tanks, reaction tanks) at a ratio of "diluent solution: raw water = 1:50 to 1:100", while stirring continuously to ensure thorough mixing of the reagent with raw water, allowing flocs to form and then settle.
-
- Dosage Adjustment: The conventional dosage is 10-50mg/L (i.e., 10-50g of solid PAC per cubic meter of raw water). The higher the turbidity of the raw water, the appropriately higher the dosage can be. For low-temperature and low-turbidity water, the dosage can be increased appropriately. It is recommended to conduct a laboratory test first to determine the optimal dosage before large-scale application.
-
- Subsequent treatment: After dosing the chemicals, qualified drinking water can be obtained through flocculation, sedimentation, filtration and other processes. The sludge produced after filtration can be treated in accordance with conventional sludge treatment methods.
(II) Precautions
- Operation Protection: During dissolution and dosing, operators shall wear protective equipment such as gloves, masks, and goggles to avoid direct contact with the product. In case of accidental contact with the skin or eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of clean water for more than 15 minutes. If discomfort occurs, seek medical attention promptly.
-
- Dissolution Taboos: Use clean water for dissolution. Alkaline water or water containing impurities is strictly prohibited to avoid affecting the flocculation effect. Do not add solid PAC directly into raw water, as undissolved solid PAC will impair water purification and may cause pipe blockage.
-
- Dosage Taboos: Add slowly and evenly with stirring to prevent excessively high local chemical concentration, which may result in fine flocs and slow sedimentation. Strictly avoid mixing with other flocculants or disinfectants. If multiple chemicals are required, allow an interval of at least 30 minutes between dosages.
-
- Equipment Cleaning: Dissolution tanks and dosing equipment should be cleaned regularly to prevent chemical residue from caking and affecting subsequent use. Equipment in contact with chemicals should be inspected periodically to avoid corrosion.
-
- Safety Precautions: This product is an inorganic strong acid flocculant. Eating or drinking is strictly prohibited, and it must be stored out of the reach of children. In case of accidental ingestion, immediately drink plenty of warm water to induce vomiting and seek medical attention promptly.
-
- Pilot Test Requirements: For first-time use or when the quality of raw water changes, a pilot test shall be conducted first (take a small amount of raw water, add PAC solution at different dosages, and observe the flocculation and sedimentation effects). After determining the optimal dosage, large-scale dosing may be carried out to avoid chemical waste or poor water purification effects.
-
- Emergency Handling: In case of packaging damage or product leakage, the leaked product shall be collected promptly to avoid contamination of water sources and soil. The collected product can be dissolved and used normally. If the leakage volume is large, clean-up shall be carried out after taking protective measures to prevent environmental pollution.
