Core Characteristics: 

1. Industrial Raw Materials‌: A core raw material for unsaturated polyesters, epoxy resins, and polyurethane resins, accounting for 45% of total consumption. These unsaturated polyesters are widely used in surface coatings and reinforced plastics.
‌2. Food Industry: Listed as an approved food processing aid, it can be used as a solvent for flavorings, colorants, and preservatives; as a humectant and softener in pastries, bread, and packaged meats; as an anti-mold agent in noodles and fillings; and as a raw material for synthesizing propylene glycol fatty acid esters, which are food emulsifiers.
‌3. Cosmetics and Personal Care: In cosmetics, toothpaste, and soap, it is blended with glycerin or sorbitol to serve as a wetting agent and moisturizer; in hair dyes, it functions as a humectant and hair-conditioning agent.
‌4. Pharmaceutical Sector: As a pharmaceutical excipient, it serves as a solvent, softener, and excipient in ointments, liniments, and pills, and is commonly used as a drug carrier and solvent for granulated medications.
5. Other Applications: Used as an antifreeze agent, cellophane plasticizer, tobacco humectant, antifungal agent, fruit ripening and preservative, paint film-forming aid, and heat transfer medium; also commonly used as a substitute for ethanol and glycerin.

Chemical Properties:
It is chemically stable and can undergo characteristic polyol reactions such as esterification, etherification, and acetalization; it is resistant to oxidation and remains stable at room temperature; it is insensitive to acids and alkalis and exhibits strong resistance to hydrolysis.
