Compared with non-selective chronobiotic agents, MT1-preferring ligands allow researchers to isolate MT₁-mediated effects—such as phase-advancement of the circadian clock and suppression of SCN responsiveness—without confounding influence from MT₂-linked processes; they demonstrate good blood–brain barrier permeability, reproducible dose–response curves in vitro, and minimal interference with classic neurotransmitter receptors at physiologically relevant concentrations.

Intended Research Population:
