Sodium bromide is a white crystalline inorganic salt supplied at ≥99% purity. It is highly soluble in water and widely used in photographic processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and as a bromide source in organic synthesis.

Synthetic Process
Sodium bromide is produced industrially by the reaction of sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate with hydrobromic acid or bromine.

Mechanism of Action
As a bromide salt, it serves as a source of bromide ions in photographic emulsions and as a sedative in pharmaceutical applications (historical). In organic synthesis, it is used for bromination reactions.
