Description

Potassium triiodide (K₃I₃) is an inorganic compound composed of potassium iodide and iodine in a molecular ratio of 3:1. It appears as a yellow-brown solid or crystalline substance and is highly soluble in water. When dissolved in water, it forms a deep brown solution due to the presence of iodine molecules in the solution. Potassium triiodide is relatively unstable and can decompose into potassium iodide and iodine, especially under heat or light, which results in the release of iodine gas.

Drug Information

Drugs that act locally on cutaneous or mucosal surfaces to produce inflammation; those that cause redness due to hyperemia are rubefacients; those that raise blisters are vesicants and those that penetrate sebaceous glands and cause abscesses are pustulants; tear gases and mustard gases are also irritants.
