The Japanese government is trying to dominate the relevant fields by formulating international standards for overseas biodegradable plastics. Marine biodegradable plastics refers to promoting natural degradation through the strength of marine microorganisms.

According to the Tokyo branch of the Korea Trade Association, the Ministry of economy and industry of Japan plans to convene an expert meeting aimed at proposing the specification of the International Standardization Organization (ISO) related to marine biodegradable plastics.

Japan Institute of Industrial Technology, Bioplastics Association and Material-related Enterprises in charge of ISO issuance specifications will attend the meeting and discuss together the necessary scientific data for formulating specifications.

It is reported that more than 8 million tons of plastic waste are transported into the sea every year. The damage of plastic particles to marine ecology has caused great concern. Through specific technological innovation, popularization of marine biodegradable plastics is becoming a part of the strategy to deal with plastic waste.

Because of the need to ensure the credibility and quality of degradation technology differences, Japan's materials research and development industry advocates the development of international standards related to function and quality standards. Because the new proposal of ISO specifications can achieve differentiation, the Japanese government promotes the ISO of marine biodegradable plastics.

Japan also put forward at the G20 Summit in 2019 that the emerging countries that attach importance to economic growth should be taken care of, and emphasized that the emission of plastic waste should be reduced by relying on the development of new materials.

Trade Association said that "in order to help Japanese enterprises with high technology to seize the competitive advantage in related fields, the Japanese government accelerated the discussion of ISO specifications proposals, formulated international standards, and promoted quality by fostering research and development of technology and other aspects.
