Description

SB 203580 is a widely used p38 MAPK inhibitor with an IC50 of 0.3-0.5 μM. It shows more than 100-fold selectivity over PKB, LCK, and GSK-3β.

SB 203580 is a member of the class of imidazoles carrying 4-methylsulfinylphenyl, 4-pyridyl and 4-fluorophenyl substituents at positions 2, 4 and 5 respectively. An inhibitor of mitogen-activated protein kinase. It has a role as an EC 2.7.11.24 (mitogen-activated protein kinase) inhibitor, a Hsp90 inhibitor, a neuroprotective agent and an EC 2.7.11.1 (non-specific serine/threonine protein kinase) inhibitor. It is a member of imidazoles, a member of monofluorobenzenes, a member of pyridines and a sulfoxide.

Drug Information

Compounds or agents that combine with an enzyme in such a manner as to prevent the normal substrate-enzyme combination and the catalytic reaction. (See all compounds classified as Enzyme Inhibitors.)|Anti-inflammatory agents that are non-steroidal in nature. In addition to anti-inflammatory actions, they have analgesic, antipyretic, and platelet-inhibitory actions. They act by blocking the synthesis of prostaglandins by inhibiting cyclooxygenase, which converts arachidonic acid to cyclic endoperoxides, precursors of prostaglandins. Inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis accounts for their analgesic, antipyretic, and platelet-inhibitory actions; other mechanisms may contribute to their anti-inflammatory effects. (See all compounds classified as Anti-Inflammatory Agents, Non-Steroidal.)
