The methyl ester of the N-nitrosamino acid, N-nitroso-N-methylaminopropionic acid isolated from various tobacco products. The occurence of N-nitrosamino acids such as N-nitroso-N-methylaminopropionic acid, is highly correlated with levels of tobacco-specific-nitrosamines, highly volatile, carcinogenic compounds.
