It has a role as an Escherichia coli metabolite. It is an amino dicarboxylic acid and a N-acyl-gamma-aminobutyric acid. It contains a L-gamma-glutamyl group. It is a conjugate acid of a 4-(L-gamma-glutamylamino)butanoate.
