China's synthetic ammonia technology breakthrough!

ECHEMI 2020-04-28

From April 20 to 23, Jiangsu Heyou Chemical Co., Ltd. DN1800 industrial iron ruthenium relay catalytic ammonia synthesis system passed the 72-hour on-site assessment and calibration organized by China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation. The calibration results show that the operating indicators of the device are better than the company's original device level, the reaction pressure is reduced by 80%, and the ammonia cost has been comprehensively calculated to fall by more than 230 yuan. The energy saving effect, economic benefit and safety level have been significantly improved.

This is the first time in China that a ruthenium-based ammonia synthesis catalyst with completely independent intellectual property rights, a "two iron and two ruthenium" catalyst loading technology and an ammonia synthesis reactor have been constructed. Experts said that the outstanding advantage of this system is the high-efficiency catalysis using iron-ruthenium relay catalysis. Under the reaction conditions of low temperature, low pressure and high inert gas content, high net ammonia value can still be obtained.

This system is the first industrialized operation in Jiangsu Heyou Chemical's original 120,000-ton / year synthetic ammonia plant after transformation and upgrading. The device was successfully driven once in July 2019 and has been in operation for more than 6000 hours. The operation data shows that compared with the original device, the operating pressure of the ammonia synthesis system of the new device after modification is 12.7MPa, which is 80% lower than the original device; at the total tower airspeed of 7463h⁻¹, the inert gas content is 14.9 vol% and hydrogen Under the condition of nitrogen ratio of 2.7, the net value of ammonia reaches 14.5vol%, an increase of more than 35%; the standard coal consumption per ton of ammonia raw material is 1084kgce, a decrease of 7.4%; the power consumption per ton of ammonia is 1204kW · h, a decrease of about 7.8%; , An increase of 48.3%.

Experts say that this technology has broken the nearly 30-year technology monopoly of American companies in the industrial application of ruthenium catalysts. By using a new generation of ruthenium-based catalysts, iron ruthenium relay catalysis has greatly reduced the pressure and ammonia synthesis process. Temperature, which effectively reduces energy consumption and material consumption.

At present, China's annual output of synthetic ammonia is 56 million tons, using traditional iron-based catalyst high-temperature and high-pressure reaction process and equipment. This innovative technological breakthrough breaks the technical bottleneck of the ammonia reduction industry in reducing consumption and increasing efficiency, and provides a new technical route for the industry to save energy and reduce consumption. At the same time, ammonia is an efficient carrier of hydrogen energy, which can penetrate the traditional chemical industry and the hydrogen energy industry, and will effectively support the upgrading of China's synthetic ammonia industry technology, making important contributions to achieving the diversified development of the national energy structure and ensuring national food security and energy security contribution.

It is reported that the complete system of low-pressure isobaric ammonia synthesis reactor based on ruthenium-based ammonia synthesis catalyst has been included in the "First (Set) Major Technical Equipment Promotion and Application Catalog (2019 Edition) released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology at the end of 2019.
