ECHEMI 2020-06-16

Upfield Group, a manufacturer of margarine and other food spreads, announced that it plans to invest 50 million euros to build a new plant-based R&D facility in Wageningen, the Netherlands.

The construction plan for the Upfield Food Science Center, which is expected to cost 50 million euros, has been submitted to the Dutch Labor Commission and is scheduled to open before the end of 2021.

Upfield produces a range of plant-based spreads, cheese and margarine products, and owns plant-based brands such as Flora, Violife and I Can't Believe It's Not Butter.

According to the company's statement, the Food Science Center will focus on accelerating research and development of plant-based foods and sustainable packaging solutions.
