There's an African horse plague in Nigeria
According to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), on 23 December 2022, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nigeria reported to WOAH an outbreak of African horse plague in Nigeria.
The outbreak, in the city of Lagos, was confirmed on 20 December 2022. The source of the outbreak is unknown or uncertain. Clinical, autopsy and laboratory tests revealed that 44 equine animals were suspected to have been infected, of which 10 became ill and 6 died.
The outbreak is not yet over and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nigeria will submit weekly follow-up reports.
