Shuanghuanglian' formula creates new immune health products
Recently, CV Sciences, which specializes in hemp CBD products, announced that it will launch a herbal immune product CV Acute, which will be the company's first immune series of dietary supplements. The company said that such non-CBD products will be sold in more sales channels, including major e-commerce retailers who have not been exposed to CBD products before.
CV Acute contains a branded ingredient called V871 SHL, which is a proprietary formula based on traditional Chinese medicine "Shuanghuanglian" Chinese herbal products. Shuanghuanglian was developed as a combination in the 1960s, although the individual herbs in it have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. V871 SHL contains extracts of honeysuckle (Japanese honeysuckle), scutellaria root (often called Chinese scutellaria) and forsythia fruit extract.
Animal and in vitro studies have shown antiviral and inflammation-regulating properties. A large number of peer-reviewed clinical trials have shown that the formula is effective in reducing symptoms of respiratory diseases. Clinical trials have shown that there are some health benefits in human trials that significantly reduce the duration of the common cold and bronchitis without any adverse events or toxic reactions.
A review article published in the "International Journal of Biological Sciences" studied the efficacy of Shuanghuanglian and several other Chinese herbal formulas in reducing some respiratory infections in animal, in vitro and human studies. This includes a very preliminary study to evaluate the interaction between the formula and infected COVID-19 cells in an in vitro environment. This formula can "potentially inhibit" a series of cytokines and chemokines, although no clinical trials have been published for humans.
The company has considered adding CBD to the formula, but doing so will prevent the supplement from entering more commercial platforms. CV Acute represents a strategic category expansion and a natural evolution of CV Sciences' positioning as a leading health company. This product is considered a safe plant formula for maintaining immunity and respiratory health. This is particularly important because many retailers are not yet able to provide CBD products that have proven to support the immune system, and may consider adding CBD to their formulas in the future.
