Media: Rising U.S. egg prices have led to a surge in demand for chicken farming

foodmate 2023-02-06

The New York Times quoted experts in the field of poultry farming as saying that the rise in egg prices in the United States has led to a surge in demand for chickens.

The New York Times reported that this year, the demand for live chickens has been alarmingly high, and the surge is due to the generally high price of food, especially the rapid rise in egg prices, which in December were almost 1.6 times higher than in the same period last year.

The New York Times said in a report that the situation was complicated by the spread of bird flu early last year, which in turn led to a sharp increase in egg prices. As of January 2023, 47 chickens across the United States have 58 million infected with the highly lethal avian influenza strain.

As the problem escalated, some food stores began to restrict the sale of eggs, and customers could only buy 1-2 boxes of eggs.
