LANXESS buys green electricity in Europe
On February 2, LANXESS announced that the company signed a green power supply agreement with energy company ENGI to provide a total of 1,400 GWh of green power supply to its production bases in Germany and Belgium. The power purchase agreement covers more than half of the power of the two production bases, and Engi will guarantee that the source is green power. The term of the agreement is from January 2023 to the end of 2025.
Lanxess said the electricity will be purchased from 17 wind farms and four solar parks in Germany. The partners hope that renewable energy can account for 50% of the total power supply of the LANXESS production base, which will reduce the carbon footprint of LANXESS by 33,000 tons per year, which is equivalent to the carbon dioxide footprint of 11 tons per person per year for 3,000 people in Germany.
According to the agreement, the power will be supplied to LANXESS' five production bases in Germany: Bergkamen, Bitterfeld, Brilon, Brunsbutt, and Mannheim. In Belgium, power will be supplied to LANXESS' two production sites in Lilo and Carlow in the Antwerp port area.
"The use of green electricity in production will make LANXESS' products more sustainable and more attractive to customers," said Rolf Kettner, head of energy procurement at LANXESS. Carbon-neutral production and purchased energy.
