Clariant Relaunches Anti-Ageing Ingredient RedSnow
Clariant has relaunched its anti-ageing ingredient RedSnow after skin explant and clinical tests showed it to be effective in combating the negative effects of air pollution on skin.
Particulate matter from heavy metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and greenhouse gasses can trigger biological responses including the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR), which induces noxious reactive oxygen species (ROS).
Pollutants also stimulate the production of ROS via the NADPH oxidase (NOX) activation pathway.
RedSnow, an extract of the red Camellia japonica flower, was shown to have positive broad-spectrum antioxidant properties against the destructive impact of air pollution.
Another study revealed that both the AhR pathway and the NOX pathway were influenced by RedSnow.
A four-week human study found 2% RedSnow applied twice daily resulted in a 19% reduction in roughness.
