Syngenta launches Orondis Ultra in Portugal

2023-03-09

Syngenta recently launched Orondis Ultra in Portugal. This is a specific fungicide for tomato’s Downy mildew, containing Mandipropamid and Oxathiapiprolin. Syngenta launches Orondis Ultra in Portugal Oxathiapiprolin belongs to a new chemical group with a new mode of action.

Syngenta expressed that Orondis Ultra's dual-action mode provides synergistic protection of tomato leaves, fruit and new plants even at very low doses (12-20 g/ha/y). Combined with these two modes of action, Orondis Ultra acts across layers on plant leaves and has an inward absorption effect that resists rain erosion for up to 1 hour after application.

Tomatoes are a very important crop in Portugal. Orondis Ultra is being described as a big step forward in “tomato’s Downy mildew prevention." "Orondis Ultra is an excellent tool to be integrated into fungal resistance management strategies," Syngenta said. The product must be applied prophylactically, with a gap of seven to 10 days between the time the crop grows and develops and when it begins to mature.

Syngenta has a 20% market share of tomato plant protection solutions in Portugal. Paulo Machado, Commercial Director for Portugal and Galicia, said: Our portfolio of solutions meets the needs of the market and Syngenta, with the best team and business partners, wants to continue to be the benchmark in the tomato plant protection industry.

Syngenta also presented the results of a spraying trial at the Tomato Industry Technical Conference, showing that even a 25 percent reduction in fungicide content and the same dose of active substance did not affect the effectiveness of the plant protection products applied, while reducing the impact on the environment.
