BP to Acquire BHP Billiton’s Shale Assets for over $13 Billion

According to familiar sources, BP has become the leader in the acquisition of BHP Billiton’s onshore oil and gas assets in the U.S. BP gave the highest price. It is expected that the two parties will reach an agreement in the next few weeks. According to Reuter, BP gave a price of more than 10 billion USD (AUD 13.45 billion). BHP is the world’s largest mining company and received initial offers from BP, Chevron and Shell two months ago. These offers are valued at 9 billion USD (AUD 12.1 billion) for BHP US assets. BHP’s US onshore assets include more than 800,000 net acres in four basins, including the Permian Basin.
