Syngenta's latest ISO name herbicide: Metproxybicyclone

In June 2023, Syngenta's herbicide received provisional approval from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee on Generic Names for pesticides under the English generic name Metproxybicyclone.

 

The IUPAC chemical name of Metproxybicyclone is: (1RS,5SR)-3-[2-methoxy-4 -(prop-1-yn-1-yl) phenyl] -4-oxybicyclo [3.2.1] oct-2-en-2-yl methyl carbonate.

The diketone part of this structure is basically the same as the Curdione structure of Benzobicylon. The original carboxylic acid structure becomes a straight chain of C-C bonds
