BASF Partners with Andritz for Carbon Capture Project in Aarhus
On November 11, 2025, BASF signed a licensing agreement with Andritz to implement its proprietary OASE® blue gas treatment technology in a planned carbon capture project in Aarhus, Denmark. As the supplier of the complete carbon capture system, Andritz selected the widely recognized OASE® blue technology, which leverages BASF’s decades of chemical expertise and practical experience.
With increasingly stringent regulations and complex flue gas compositions, the market demands advanced post-combustion capture solutions. BASF’s OASE® portfolio, developed over 50 years in gas treatment, includes OASE® blue for CO₂ capture, purple for acid gas removal, white for syngas and ammonia treatment, green for biogas purification, yellow for selective desulfurization, and sulfexx™ for high-efficiency H₂S removal, complemented by specialized solvents and the OASE® connect digital platform. This system has been successfully implemented in over 500 plants worldwide, including 90% of new syngas/ammonia plants and 50% of new world-class LNG facilities. The technology provides high efficiency, low energy consumption, minimal solvent loss, and low equipment corrosion, while its modular design allows flexible scaling.
The Aarhus project aims to capture approximately 435,000 tons of CO₂ annually from a waste-to-energy plant, supporting the city’s 2030 carbon neutrality goal. BASF’s technology, combined with Andritz’s engineering expertise, ensures that the project can meet its emission reduction target, serving as a benchmark for industrial sustainability and waste-to-energy carbon capture solutions. This collaboration exemplifies how chemical innovation and engineering integration can drive climate objectives, while laying a foundation for further green projects and sustainable partnerships.
