FMC: Three Bifenthrin insecticides are approved in Brazil
Recently, FMC announced that it will increase the sale of three Bifenthrin insecticides licensed in Brazil. In addition to the current Capture 400 EC, there will be three additional products: Bistar 400, Brigade 400 and Talstar 400.
Bifenthrin is a pyrethroid insecticide synthesized from the natural pyrethrin toxin found in chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium. The mode of action of Bifenthrin is classified as Group 3A by IRAC and acts through exposure or ingestion. Bifenthrin was first approved for registration by EPA in 1985
The three Bifenthrin products use sodium ion channels in the cell membranes of neurons to act on the central nervous system of insects, FMC said. Sodium ion channels are responsible for conducting nerve impulses and are the basis for coordinating insect activity. The insecticide binds to the sodium ion channel, making it work longer than expected. The insect's neurons will become overstimulated, repeatedly firing nerve impulses, and the insect will become paralyzed
