LANXESS Signs Distribution Agreement for Ion Exchange Resins in Chinese Chlor-Alkali Industry with Shanghai Bofan Industrial Co., Ltd.
On June 29th, the Liquid Purification Technologies business unit of LANXESS signed a distribution agreement with Shanghai Bofan Industrial Co., Ltd. to provide Lewatit ion exchange resins for brine softening in the Chinese chlor-alkali industry.
Firuza Mir, Vice President of Sales for Asia Pacific and Americas at LANXESS Liquid Purification Technologies Business Unit, said, "China is one of the most important markets for our brine purification ion exchange resins globally, and has maintained this position for many years. LANXESS will provide the full range of Lewatit ion exchange resin products to the chlor-alkali industry through Bofan." Wang Zengping, General Manager of Shanghai Bofan Industrial Co., Ltd., said that Bofan provides specialized chemical solutions for different industries, such as petrochemicals and energy. As a long-term partner of large companies including LANXESS, Bofan actively explores market opportunities based on its professional sales and marketing team.
LANXESS stated that China is the world's largest producer of chlorine, sodium hydroxide and hydrogen, accounting for over 40% of global capacity in 2020. China is also the market with the fastest growth in chlor-alkali production capacity, with an annual growth rate of 1.4% for chlorine and sodium hydroxide expected by 2025. Mir said that currently, almost all chlor-alkali plants in China use economical and environmentally friendly membrane cell technology. This method requires protecting sensitive and expensive membranes from damage by brine impurities. LANXESS' ion exchange resins can play a role in this aspect, providing precise brine cleaning to reduce hardness and remove impurities such as barium and strontium.
