Syngenta launches ERGER, a new biostimulant, to break fruit crop dormancy in Brazil
Syngenta Biologicals has revealed that it has launched ERGER, a biostimulant containing inorganic nitrogen, in Brazil. This Varagro-owned product helps Brazilian fruit crops break dormancy and promote budding.
The warm winters and frequent temperature fluctuations in southern Brazil tend to cause crop dormancy and low budding. According to Syngenta, this is the only biological agent available in Brazil that can be used to break the dormancy of apples, pears, grapes and other stone fruits. ERGER can promote the metabolism of temperate fruit crops, break dormancy, and create conditions for improving the consistency and vitality of crop budding.
″Ana Paula Neto, Syngenta Biomarket Development Manager, said: "If the winter is not long or cold enough, buds will remain dormant, leading to delayed leaf growth, nutrient depletion in early crops and other issues, increasing the risk of premature fruit fall or severe uneven growth. Under adverse climatic conditions, the metabolic activities of plants will be inhibited, which will directly affect the yield and quality of agricultural products. ERGER addresses these issues as a natural, safe biostimulant that increases the efficiency of the germination process, helps the crop get off to a good start, and is environmentally friendly and harmless to the plant."
Brazil is the world's third largest fruit producer, producing about 58 million tonnes a year, according to the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation. Fruit trees are grown in tropical, subtropical and temperate regions. The temperate zone is dominated by fruit crops such as grapes, apples, peaches and plums, which have important socio-economic value in the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Parana.
