Sumitomo launched Rapidicil in Argentina, its first herbicide containing the new ingredient Epyrifenacil

 Sumitomo recently launched Rapidicil, a new herbicide with the active ingredient Epyrifenacil, during the Argentinean Weed Congress 2023, as the first product to take this active ingredient into the Argentine market to address the increasing problem of resistance to pests and diseases in agricultural production.

 The Sumitomo Argentina Regional Marketing Coordinator noted that an increasing number of weeds are showing some tolerance or resistance to different types of herbicides, and Epyrifenacil provides a new tool to manage the serious problems of annual grass weeds such as Goosegrass, Echinochloa crusgalli and Urochloa in most areas of Argentina, as well as difficult weeds such as surfers. Sumitomo classifs the product as an innovative solution and is preparing for a full market launch next year.

Epyrifenacil is a uracil herbicide developed and announced by Sumitomo Japan, and won the ISO generic name in March 2020. Its mechanism of action is Protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO) inhibitor. Epyrifenacil is a broad-spectrum, quick-acting product that can control most broad-leaved and grass weeds and is less toxic to mammals, and is expected to generate peak annual sales of $100 million.

Sumitomo also introduced Excalia Max (Inpyrfluxam+ Tebuconazole), an early fungicide that provides additional performance by protecting the leaf area during the critical period of the crop. The product has excellent internal absorption and conductivity, long duration, and can prevent and cure various rust and spot diseases.
