Sumitomo launches Kaiso Max in Brazil, the first mixed insecticide of Imidacloprid
Sumitomo recently disclosed that it has launched a new insecticide Kaiso Max in Brazil with the active ingredients Imidacloprid and Cyhalothrin. The insecticide has a dual mechanism of action and is an excellent tool for resistance management to protect the productive potential of sugarcane fields.
Sumitomo said Kaiso Max has strong efficacy and innovative residual effects, and can be used in rotation to improve the effectiveness of insecticide control. This is a unique mixture and the first product to be combined with Imidacloprid.
The insecticide Kaiso Max is designed to control the main pest currently affecting sugarcane in Brazil - the Mahanarva fimbriolata, which can cause a significant decrease in sugarcane production. The larvae of Mahanarva fimbriolata absorb a lot of water and nutrients from the root system, causing great damage. Adults suck SAP from the leaves and inject toxic saliva into the plant, resulting in leaf and root tissue necrosis. This has led to a reduction in industrial sugarcane yields, pollution from industrial processes, reduced fermentation yields, a 1.5% reduction in sucrose content, difficulties in obtaining white sugar, long-term complete blight of sugarcane fields and a reduction of 34 to 78 tons per hectare.
According to estimates by the National Supply Company (Conab), Brazilian sugarcane production for the 2023/2024 season is expected to exceed 670 million tons, which will be an increase of nearly 11% compared to the previous season. Therefore, an efficient and long-lasting solution can be used to reduce the impact of Mahanarva fimbriolata.
The insecticide Kaiso Max also has the advantages of increased productivity per hectare of sugarcane, good cost-benefit ratio, inhibition of pests in the first crop when applied in the ditch, compatibility with entomopathogenic fungi used in biological control, and protection throughout the crop cycle. The solution is applied to sugarcane fields and soils in a 70/30 formula.
Kaiso Max will be applied during the next harvest beginning in March 2024.
