SABIC and Roehm Chemical Cooperate to Establish New Company!

On November 21, Roehm Chemical announced that it will establish POLYVANTIS, the world's leading advanced film and sheet manufacturer.

The company will be formed by the merger of Roehm Chemical's acrylic products business unit and SABIC's (Saudi Basic Industries Corporation) functional profiles business unit.

POLYVANTIS will become a global leader in the acrylic and polycarbonate film and sheet industry, offering films, sheets, tubes and rods and serving multiple market segments, including Building & Construction, Transportation & Aerospace, Electrical & Electronics, Automotive and Home & Garden.

The new company will provide its global customer base with an industry-leading product portfolio, unique technical knowledge and application-based expertise. Its global sales will reach US$700 million and it will have approximately 1,500 employees, and will have 16 production bases in America, Europe, Asia ,and Africa.

The establishment of the new company dates back to December 7, 2022, when Roehm Chem signed an agreement to acquire SABIC's PC sheet film business, through which Roehm adds its polycarbonate (PC) sheet and film business to its existing polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) sheet and film business.

This time, due to the establishment of the new company POLYVANTIS, Roehm Chemical and SABIC signed a long-term licensing agreement for brands in their respective fields: the polymethyl methacrylate molding compound business will continue to be handled by Roehm, while the polycarbonate business will continue to be handled by SABIC.

This merger is expected to divest the acrylic products business from Roehm and the functional profiles business from SABIC around the second quarter of 2024, and complete the previous acquisition transaction, subject to customary regulatory approvals.

POLYVANTIS will maintain close ties with Roehm and SABIC due to the shared brand and long-term agreement. The name "POLYVANTIS" reflects the company's desire to become a leading multi-material supplier of film and sheet products with strong market presence, said Michael Pack, CEO of Roehm.

The name "POLYVANTIS" is a combination of the Greek prefix "Poly" (meaning "many") and the Italian prefix "avanti" (meaning "forward") or the French prefix "avant" (meaning "forward") . This reflects the company's product diversity and ongoing pursuit of advancement in polymers and related materials.
