Seven Products of Mitsui Chemicals Have Obtained ISCC PLUS Certification

Mitsui Chemicals' phenolic resin chain products IPA and MIBK obtained ISCC PLUS certification in April and July respectively this year, which is one of the international certification systems for sustainable products. Therefore, Mitsui Chemicals has completed ISCC PLUS certification for all seven of the company's phenolic chain products. These seven products include: phenol, acetone, α-methylstyrene, bisphenol A, epoxy resin, IPA, and MIBK.

Mitsui Chemicals has signed a joint research agreement with the group of Associate Professor Yasunori Kikuchi of the Institute for Future Initiatives at the University of Tokyo and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and began joint research into LCA (life cycle assessment) calculations for bionaphtha-derived epoxy resins and petroleum naphtha-derived epoxy resins. The LCA of phenol, acetone, α-methylstyrene and bisphenol A were also calculated during the study.

Japan’s first LCA calculation results for biomass naphtha-derived phenol chain products are scheduled to be announced in fiscal 2023. Mitsui Chemicals will strive to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and other environmentally harmful substances.
