Insecticides (India) has partnered with Nissan Chemical to promote a new insecticide, Shinwa

2023-12-27

Recently, India launched a new insecticide Shinwa (Benzamide 10% EC), mainly for the control of lepidoptera pests and thrips. In April 2022, Insecticides of India partnered with Nissan Chemical to introduce the insecticide Shinwa. Shinwa has become an effective solution to control lepidoptera pests and thrips, bringing hope and success to pepper growers all over India, especially in Andhra Pradesh.

The insecticide Shinwa quickly killed target pests within hours, avoiding crop damage, was effective at both high and low temperatures, and was resistant to rain for two hours, the company said.

India is the world's largest producer, consumer and exporter of hot pepper, with its cultivated area accounting for 40% of the world's total area. In India, the cost of pepper cultivation is higher, requiring high investment of Rs 25-30 lakh/ha. Thrips cause reduced yields and economic losses in chili crops, posing a major threat to growers. In 2021, T parvispinusis (thrips variant) caused widespread damage to chili farms in several Indian states, particularly in Andhra Pradesh and Delhi, resulting in the destruction of about 360,000 hectares. This invasive species attacks not only leaves but also flowers, seriously harming crop growth.

To address this challenge, farmers are adopting an integrated approach that includes appropriate crop management practices, pesticide use, cultural control, and integrated pest management (IPM).
