Sipcam Nichino launches new products of Buprofezin and Fenpyroximate for the control of citrus psyllid
Sipcam Nichino in Brazil recently revealed that it has introduced a new insecticide Fiera (Buprofezin) to the Brazilian market as a strategic product of the company's innovative program to combat citrus psyllid.
Fiera contains the active ingredient Buprofezin, which has a growth-regulating effect on insects, and it works by coming into contact with woodlouse nymphs (larval stage), it is recommended to apply this solution when this pest first appears in orchards.
In addition, the company introduced the acaricide Fujimite, which has just received regulatory approval for the control of citrus psyllid. The solution has been successfully used in citrus cultivation to control pests of high economic relevance, such as Brevipalpus phoenicis, which acts through exposure and ingestion. According to Sipcam Nichino Brazil, the prevention rate of Fujimite can be 80 to 100 percent.
The citrus psyllid is the only vector pest of Huanglongbing, a disease that affected nearly 40% of Brazilian orchards in 2023, causing widespread concern among researchers and the pesticide industry. According to Brazil's Kynetec survey, the investment in citrus psyllid control treatment amounted to R $271 million, accounting for 23% of the total pesticide market for the crop, compared to R $191 million last season, an increase of 42%; According to the Fundecitrus (Citrus Defense Fund), there has been a 56 percent increase in Huanglongbing in Sao Paulo alone, causing losses of up to 3.5 million reais in some farms.
According to Sipcam Nichino Brazil, one of the main recommendations to citrus growers from a phytosanitary point of view is to rotate products with different active ingredients.
