Nouryon Completes Capacity Expansion of U.S. Colloidal Silica Plant

ECHEMI 2024-01-12

Recently, Dutch specialty chemicals manufacturer Nouryon completed the expansion of its U.S. manufacturing plant in Green Bay, Wisconsin, expanding Levasil colloidal silica production capacity by nearly 50%.

"Growing demand for Levasil colloidal silica, particularly in North America, is the driving force behind the expansion of our production facilities. Developments in batteries, electric vehicles and semiconductors in artificial intelligence applications are driving growing customer demand. The additional capacity will enable us to provide high-quality solutions to customers around the world." said Patrick Wilhelm, Vice President of Nouryon Inorganic Specialty Business.

Nouryon said its Levasil colloidal silica is derived from two natural ingredients, sand and water, and serves a variety of end markets. They are used as abrasives in electronic applications to shape, smooth and polish silicon, metal, sapphire and other precision substrate materials. In building and construction applications, admixture companies use them to increase the durability and strength of concrete.

Nouryon operates eight Levasil manufacturing facilities worldwide.
