Inolex Grants European Patent for Multifunctional Product, Announces Launch of Spectrastat CHA Chelating Agent

ECHEMI 2024-04-19

Inolex has announced a preservation ingredient and issued a European patent EP3075401B1 for a paraben-free multifunctional composition for topical cosmetics, toiletries and pharmaceutical formulations. These formulations require carhexyl hydroxamic acid and orthophenylene glycol, as well as methods of using the composition to prevent the growth of microorganisms.

Inolex's newest ingredient, Spectrastat CHA (INCI: Not Available), is a 100% natural, non-palm derived powdered chelating agent joining the Spectrastat line of preservation products.

The company says coconut-derived organic acids and chelating agents provide a sustainable source of caprylhydroxamic acid (CHA) that remains effective at neutral pH and prevents the growth of yeast and mold in formulas.

According to the company, several MCTDs are used in combination with CHA for effective preservation, including caprylyl glycol, caprylinyl glyceryl ester and capryloyl glyceryl ether. This combination of materials and the resulting effective preservation of cosmetic products is described in Inolex's newly granted patent and forms the Spectrastat trade name.

Michael J. Fevola, Ph.D., Vice President of Research and Development at Inolex, commented:"Our patented compositions and methods result in a versatile ingredient platform that provides formulators with options when developing optimal preservation systems for consumer products."
