With ADEPIDYN® technology, Syngenta cements its leading position in microbicides

Syngenta, one of the world's largest agricultural technology companies, is further consolidating its leading position in the field of fungicides with the success of its patented technology ADEPIDYN® (trademark for the active ingredient "Pydiflumetofen"). Following its recent successful registration in the UK, farmers in 55 countries now have access to this powerful fungicide technology, with strong sales on all continents, demonstrating the urgent need for efficient control of crop diseases. Products based on ADEPIDYN® technology are on track to reach $1 billion in annual sales, a milestone the company's active ingredient has reached for the first time in just eight years.

It is estimated that 10%-23% of global crops are lost to fungal diseases each year, and another 10%-20% are lost after harvest. Taking the five largest crops - paddy, wheat, maize, soybeans and potatoes - it is estimated that the yield loss caused by fungal infections could feed at least 600 million people for a year.

 

ADEPIDYN® technology offers a new solution to effectively combat wheat scab, which produces mycotoxins that contaminate harvested crops and threaten human and animal health. In addition, as a broad spectrum fungicide technology, it has a significant effect on the control of many important diseases. ADEPIDYN® technology is currently used in more than 100 crops, including cereals, corn, soybeans, canola, vegetables, and fruit trees.

 

At the heart of Syngenta's new focus on sustainability announced in April this year, the Group's commitment to sustainable innovation is also reflected in the ADEPIDYN® technology. Its good efficacy and durable activity can reduce the use rate and potential use, especially for leaf spot prevention and control, while not harming beneficial organisms. It is also an important tool for resistance management. The technique prevents the fungus from getting the energy it needs to survive by inhibiting an enzyme necessary for the fungus to breathe. It adheres to the surface of the crop and quickly seeps into the leaf surface, forming a reserve of active ingredients in the waxy layer of the crop tissue, allowing it to be evenly distributed and provide lasting protection during plant growth.

 

This technology further highlights Syngenta's success in the SDHI mode of action and its tremendous ability to effectively design plant protection active ingredients to help farmers meet a variety of challenges. Following the launch of the first SDHI SD, Sedaxane, Syngena introduced an SDHI fungicide, Isopyrazam, to enhance farmers' ability to control rice blight, followed by SOLATENOL® technology to protect crops from leaf blight and rust. In Brazil, SOLATENOL® technology has been recognized as a key means of combating soybean pod anomaly - a new fungal disease that has spread to 12 states across the country in just three years since it was first identified.

 

In addition to R&D innovation, Syngenta's success lies in its relentless investment in advanced production processes. Driven by strong demand in the global market, Syngenta has increased its investment to improve the production efficiency of the ADEPIDYN® technology and accelerate the introduction to the market of various formulations based on the ADEPIDYN® technology to meet the specific cultivation needs of different markets.

 

Syngenta's latest innovation in the field of SDHI microbicides is the TYMIRIUM® technology to be launched globally in 2022. It provides broad-spectrum control against plant-parasitic nematodes while protecting crops from key fungal diseases. According to statistics, these parasitic nematodes can reduce global crop production by about 12% per year.
